AKHIGBE, 17 OTHERS RECEIVES DISTINGUISHED AWARD

i Akhigbe was yesterday Thursday among the best 18 performing local government chairmen in Nigeria honoured by the Rootswatch magazine in Abuja.
The national award which took place at the Nigeria National Merit House, Maitama, Abuja was organized by the Rootswatch Magazine to honour the best performing local government chairmen in Nigeria with a distinguished local government chairman merit award of excellence for 2019.
Rootswatch magazine is a timely response to the yearnings of grassroots people for a voice of their own.
The chairman of the occasion, Chief Abiodun Ogunleye, former deputy governor of Lagos state, congratulated the awardees for being chosen among the best performing local government chairmen in Nigeria.
He said that as one of the tiers of government, the local government chairman lives closer with the people and get first hand information about the happenings and the needs of the people in their respective local government and responded to their need.
In his welcome address, the Editor in Chief and National Coordinator of the magazine, said that the Rootswatch magazine award has cut a niche for itself by ensuring that the processes leading to the choice of winners are credible and transparent based on their performances at their respective local government areas through the involvement of members of the public who are direct beneficiaries of the stewardship of the council's chairmen.
He said the recipients haven scaled through the rigorous screening processes from nomination in response to advertisement in national papers, radio and television stations to verification of claims, the awardees have truely impacted positively on their council areas and therefore worthy of the honour.
Speaking after receiving the award of excellence, the local government chairman, Comrade John Osi Akhigbe thanked the organizers for finding him worthy of the honour.
The chairman who also won a new generating set among the best of the best local government chairmen dedicated the award to God almighty and the management team and staff of the local government for their support and cooperation towards achieving successes in the development of the local government area.
The chairman who expressed his heart felt thanks to his wife, Mrs. Cleopatra Akhigbe, APC party members for their prayers, support and encouragement for the past one year, reiterated his commitment and desire to bring devidends of democracy to the people at the grassroots.
According to him, "This award is a sign of good things to come in the local government as I never thought of the little ones I'm doing are being watched as I can not really tell who and how I was nominated for the award", he stated.

Odili Ifeanyi, Ene LG, (Rivers); Hon. Prince Nuhu Adamu Dauda, Toto LG, (Nasarawa); Hon. Abubakar Ali Bacirawa, Unogogo LG, (Kano); Hon. Baron Okwoli Igelamale, Odolu LG, (Kogi); Hon. Igboke Ogbonna, Onicha LG, (Ebonyi); Hon. Cafra Caino, Kajuru LG, (Kaduna) etc.
Highpoint of the event was the presentation of awards and certifications to the awardees with FCT Police band on ground to entertain the audience while the chairman of diaspora, Hon Abike Dabri-Elewa was also in attendance.
